Courses 4 year full time or 5/6 year modified attendance
Full time course made up of:
- 2 years pre-clinical
subjects include anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnosis & orthopaedics as well as practical subjects
- 2 years post-clinical
students gain experience in out patient clinic
as well as covering paediatrics, X-ray diagnosis
gynaecology and pharmacology
Training for the initial consultation
- Case history taking - to include past medical history, current medications, general health to include GI / GU / CVS / RESP systems
- Clinical examination of affected area and other related areas, will often include a Bp measurement and relevant orthopaedic tests
- Diagnosis - if required refer to GP - may require further investigations
- Xrays are usually of limited use
- Most PHI companies now recognise osteopathy
